Google launched a new application on India Play Store known as Areo. The app allows users to order food and other services. So far the services being offered through the app is now only for Bangalore and Mumbai. It includes seven parts 1)Food delivery 2)Beauty 3)Home maintenance 4)Repairs & installation 5)Fitness 6)Chores & Cleaning and 7)Speciality services. In the Food delivery section users can choose the types they want to order. The section also shows the required time of delivery, amount to paid and the by which method with users can pay. In the Beauty section, the app for now uses Urban Clap's services with collaboration . The services are listed in the same manner as seen in the Food delivery section department . The Home maintenance section allows users to get in touch with carpenters, electricians and plumbers very quickly . Users can also avail services of Yoga and fitness trainers which is new featured.
Anything that a customer orders get added to cart. Users can also check promotional offers. Google Areo can be downloaded on devices running on minimum Android 4.2 and later versions. Since Google has not confirmed anything about the application, it is possible that the search giant may still might be testing the service in the country for now and will officially announce it later once more locations are covered and more services are included because people's are good to known everything.
This isn’t Google’s first time in the delivery space, however. The company continues to operate its rapid-delivery service Google Express in the U.S., which delivers items from stores like Costco, Walgreens, Toys R Us, Petsmart, Whole Foods and several others. That service has had its ups and downs, however, as Google rethought the model. For example, last fall Google announced it was killing the part of the business that would deliver perishables.

For those unaware, Google last week launched Google Play Music subscription in India which is running quite finely . The company until now only allowed songs to be purchased from its Play Music app not from any other sources . The Google Play Music subscription is available across multiple platforms including apple devices ios, Android and Web. Interested users can sign up for a free trial which is about 15 days . As an introductory offer, the company is also offering a discounted subscription offer of Rs 89 per month, for users who sign up within the first 45 days but remember this is introductory offer.
What it offers
Areo works by detecting your location and then shows the service options which are available in your area. These options are arranged on the home page in card based format, just like the cards on Google Now. As of now you can order food, a beautician, plumber, carpenter, and fitness expert.
How it works
When it comes to services, Google is actually using UrbanClap’s database. So when you order a beautician, Areo opens the API of Urban Clap where you can see the type of service available, rating by other users on Urban Clap and the charges for each. Once you have decided upon a service, you can mark your date and time of appointment on the same page. Once an order is placed, you can see the order in your app cart and receive a confirmation call from the service provider. Payment can be made through card, online banking or cash on delivery.
For food delivery, Areo uses up data from food ordering apps such as Fasoos, Freshmenu, Holachef and Box8. The results do not show by the name of the shop or restaurant but by the name of the food items. While this may work for services, the anonymity over who is actually providing the food is surprising.
Areo is basically currently an aggregator of services which connect a busy urban user to service providers via their mobile apps. As of now it offers very few options and is available to users in just two Indian cities. Even in these cities, the service is scattered and not available in many places. For someone who is already using the UrbanClap or Fasoos app, there isn’t enough incentive to move to Google Areo.
